- Description:
- "Flyback transformer" is one unusual transformer which can be found in everything that has CRT.
It is used to get very high voltage (primary for CRT, but it has few more outputs). The difference between this, and other ("ordinary", 50Hz) transformers is that this one works on around 24kHz, and therefore makes sound of that frequency. I drive mine on higher frequency (around 26.7kHz), so I don't get it why can I here loud sound...?! I should see with oscilloscope, but I simply haven't enough time... Maybe it's transistor's fault...
Schematic is based on one already existing. Modified is only that 555 works with 12V supply, and driver with 20V directly taken from adapter from one laptop... Also, I added safty diode (because transistor which I used had it). Original autor removed primary windings and wound his own, but I used original primary.

- Description:
- As I'm trying to make Tesla coil on the "old way", I need high voltage power supply, DC if possesible.
Flyback alone gives me high voltage, but frequency is too high and can't fill capacitor that quickly. And so... from one TV I've found, I picked voltage tripler (it gives me DC on output), found it's schematic and connected it...
With it i can get sparks longer than 1 inch (if sparking directly to GND), but also some very interesting stuff.. It's possesible to see little things, like dust, like it's trying to escape from HV wire... :)
Output from flyback is connected to U~, and mass to M (on schematic it's T upsidedown).

Sparking to floor.
Sparking to metal tool which is on floor - note tiny sparks between tool and floor.
